One of the earliest flowering cherries with carmine-pink petals and reddish flower stalks, that open fully before leaf break. Fruits are small and not ornamentally important. The dark orange-red fall color extends its appeal as does the shiny reddish-brown bark with its gray lenticels. Okame will adapt to a variety of soils as long as they are not wet. Has been very successful at the arboretum in Ohio, in zone 5.
