A native selection from a group of A. canadensis seedlings introduced by Losely Nursery in Perry, Ohio, Rainbow Pillar™ was chosen for its dense and upright form, providing a spectrum of color from spring to fall. Of the white spring flowers, only 10% produce purplish-black fruit. However, sets tend to be heavier when a different variety is planted nearby. The powdery mildew resistant leaves turn brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow in the fall. Growing at a medium rate, this Serviceberry is an excellent choice for use as a hedge, screen, and under power lines. Adaptable to a range of soils, it can tolerate wet conditions and even standing water and urban pollution.
